McDade rules against the Mainers

Vermont's (10-6) right handed pitcher Jim McDade (2-0) continued the pitching dominance for Vermont against the Mainers. Sanford falls back to .500 at 8-8 on the season while McDade excelled throwing 7 innings of 1 hit ball while fanning 4 batters and issuing just 1 walk as the Moose bats were silenced for most of this affair. Matt Pagano broke up McDade's no-hit bid with 2 outs in the top of the 7th driving a ball to center field that skipped under the glove of Alex Caruso allowing Pagano to stretch a single to a double on the error. McDade was replaced in the 8th inning by Adam Picard who worked the 8th and 9th allowing 2 hits and 2 runs as the Mainers fall 6-2.

Sanford right handed pitcher Bobby Ruse (Maryland, 0-2) worked 4 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 earned runs, 5 total runs. The second tough outing for Bobby, following his 5.2 innings pitched against Keene on June 20th when he allowed 3 runs on 3 hits with 8 strikeouts. Vermont scored three runs in the first two innings and was led by Jack Perenty's 3 for 4 night with 1 RBI. Trey Amburgey finished 2 for 3 and Ben Hall pinch hit for Casey Rodrigue in the bottom of the 8th and drove a moon shot over the right field wall for a home run his first of the season.

The Mainers had limited offense, the top of the ninth was where the Moose found the score board Cory Raley finished 1 for 4 driving in Caden Bailey after Bailey doubled to center field. Raley advanced to second on a pass ball, one more pass ball moves Raley to third. Matt Pagano reaches on an error by second baseman Brett Charbonneau and Raley scores the second run for the Moose.

McDade tossed 94 pitches 56 of them for strikes; Ruse threw 92 pitches 55 of them for strikes. The Mainers stay out on the road tomorrow night, first pitch 6:30 pm at Laconia, Brett Adcock from Michigan will make his first start for the Moose. Adcock went 7-4 with a 2.87 earned-run average in 26 appearances this past season on the mound for the Wolverines. Tied for fourth in the Big Ten with 7 wins, Big Ten Freshman of the week (May 13th) and had 61 strikeouts in 53.1 innings pitched.
