
McCutchen sharp as Trenton defeats Erie 5-2

(Erie, PA)- Thunder starting pitcher Dan McCutchen went a season-high 7.1 IP to help lead the Thunder to a 5-2 win over Erie on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, PA. Trenton now has a five-game winning streak, which is its longest win streak of the season.
The game was scoreless for four innings before the Thunder took the lead in the 5th. 1B Cody Ehlers walked to lead off the inning against Erie starting pitcher Andrew Kown (2-3). With one out, C P.J. Pilittere walked to put runners at 1st and 2nd base. 3B Chris Malec then delivered an RBI single scoring Ehlers to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead.
Trenton extended the lead to 3-0 with two runs in the 6th inning. After Austin Jackson walked to lead off the inning, LF Colin Curtis connected on an RBI triple to plate Jackson. Curtis would later score in the inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Ehlers to make it 3-0. The lead swelled to 4-0 in the 7th inning on a lead-off home run by Malec off of Erie reliever Marcelo Perez. The home run was Malec's third of the season, and second in three games. Trenton (21-12) scored its final run in the 8th inning on an RBI double by Pilittere.
McCutchen (4-2) retired the first six batters of the game en route to his 7.1 IP performance. He scattered 4 hits and 1 ER. He struck out 4 and walked 2. McCutchen is now tied with teammates Jason Jones and Chase Wright for the team lead with four wins. The only run he allowed was a solo home run to Erie C Dusty Ryan in the 8th inning. Thunder reliever J.B. Cox came on for McCutchen and tossed the final 1.2 IP. He retired RF Jeff Frazier for the final out of the game with the bases loaded in the 9th inning. Kown went 6 IP and gave up 4 H and 3 ER to take the loss.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. for the third game of the four-game series. LHP Phil Coke (1-1, 4.91) will start for Trenton against Erie LHP Danny Christensen (0-3, 3.77).
