Defenders Switch Roles With Senators In Game 2 For A 5-2 Win

HARRISBURG, PA- Roles were reversed tonight for the Senators and the visiting Defenders as Connecticut took game 2 by the score of 5-2, tying the series at one game apiece. Ironically the identical score yesterday.
The Defenders struck first taking advantage on an error and a passed ball to put SS Olmo Rosario in scoring position in the first inning. 1B Travis Ishikawa would waste no time delivering an RBI single (15) into centerfield scoring Rosario for an early 1-0 lead.
The Senators would respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Adam Cowart would give up back to back singles to RF Mike Daniel and 2B William Bergolla allowing Daniel to go to third setting up runners on the corners. Cowart would get LF Justin Maxwell to hit into the pitchers best friend double play trading the two outs for a run, tying the game at 1-1.
Sens starter in Jordan Zimmerman settled down and looked good until he left one over the plate in the fourth for RF Carlos Sosa who jacked a solo homerun (3) off the scored board, picking up his 18 RBI.
Harrisburg would respond yet again in the bottom of the inning with a pair of doubles to drive in Bergolla with the tying run to make it 2-2.
That's as close as the Senators would get as the Defenders would take advantage of walks and a key error on SS Ian Desmond (9th) in the top of the sixth, as he threw a ball in the dirt to 1B LaFave allowing C-Adam Witter to reach and the good ahead run to score.
The Defenders would manufacture runs in the 7th and 9th innings to pull away. Ishikawa drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 4-2 and pick up his second RBI (16) of the night. A pinch hit single by Dave Maroul turned into a two bagger as LF Maxwell bobbled the ball. 2B Brad Boyer layed down a sac bunt to move Maroul to third then Rosario brought him in on an RBI (11) single to center.
Adam Cowart picked up the win improving to (1-2) on year while Jordan Zimmerman suffered his double A debut loss. Osiris Matos saved the game for the first time all season and the Defenders improve to 15-16 overall.
The Defenders and Senators will tangle again tomorrow for game 3 of the best of 4 series. RHP Garrett Broshuis (2-3) hurls for CT while RHP Tristan Crawford (1-0) goes for Harrisburg. Catch all the action with the AT&T Real Yellow Pages Pre-Game Show starting at 5:50pm locally.
