New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Matt Moses' RBI double in the seventh inning proved to be the game-winner as the Rock Cats stayed hot with a 5-3 victory over Bowie. The 'Cats have now won eight in a row.

Luke Hughes extended his hitting streak 15 games - an Eastern League season-high - with a single to lead off the bottom of the first. Hughes finished the night with two hits to put his league-leading batting average at .386.

Luis Montanez doubled to open the third inning. Jeff Nettles followed with a walk. Both runners came around to score on a double by Jonathon Tucker to put Bowie ahead, 2-0. With two outs, third baseman Luke Hughes appeared to have ended the inning with a catch along the third baseline, but the ball fell out of his glove and allowed Tucker to score.

In the bottom of the inning, the Rock Cats clawed back. Drew Butera led off the inning with a walk and Hughes followed with a single. Butera came around to score on a ground out by Brock Peterson. Hughes then scored on a sharply hit single off the bat of Matt Moses to close the gap, 3-2. Butera added a sacrifice fly that scored Erik Lis in the fourth inning to tie the game.

Rock Cats starter Ryan Mullins allowed three runs (2 ER) on five hits and struck out six through six innings. He retired eight of the last nine batters he faced. Mullins handed the ball over to a bullpen that has been lights out as of late. Zachary Ward continued the trend as he tossed two shutout innings in relief. Ward (2-0, 0.46) picked up the win. Ben Julianel fired a perfect ninth, striking out two, to notch his sixth save.

Kameron Mickolio (0-1, 3.50) suffered the loss in relief for Bowie.
