The 22-year old, received the first Major League call up of his career on Wednesday, June 3, when he was promoted to Pittsburgh following the Pirates trade of OF Nate McLouth to the Atlanta Braves. The Major League rookie is now likely to take over starting duties in center field for Pittsburgh.

With the Indians, McCutchen went 35-for-115 (.304) with 22 runs, four doubles, three triples, three home runs, 14 RBI, 11 walks and three stolen bases in 29 games during May. The center fielder came into June ranked among International League leaders in triples (1st, 8), runs (T-1st, 39), hits (5th, 57) and total bases (5th, 94).

The speedy right hander reached base safely in 24 of the 29 contests in the season's second month and also recorded nine multi-hit performances, four multi-RBI games and five multi-run efforts.

McCutchen owns a .303 BA with four roundtrippers and 20 RBI through 49 affairs at the Triple-A level this season. He leaves the Tribe after batting .361 with two dingers and six RBI against left-handed pitchers and .279 with two long balls and 14 RBI vs. right-handed hurlers.

For the second year in a row the Florida native was named the Indianapolis Indians "May Player of the Month" after he posted a similar May last season hitting .304 with two home runs and 10 RBI in the month.

The "May Player of the Month" has spent all five of his professional seasons within the Pittsburgh organization, including the last portion of the 2007 season and all of the 2008 campaign in Indianapolis.

Last year McCutchen finished the season among the International League leaders in walks (3rd, 68), games played (135), stolen bases (7th, 35) and on-base percentage (10th, .372) en route to being named to the International League All-Star team.

Heading into 2009, McCutchen was ranked by Baseball America as the Pirates' No. 2 prospect and by MLB.com as the 12th-best prospect in all of Minor League Baseball. McCutchen has been ranked as the No. 1 or No. 2 prospect in the Pittsburgh organization every year since he was taken in the first round of the 2005 draft.

The 2006 Pirates Minor League Player of the Year has also been rated as Baseball America's "Best Minor League Athlete" and Pittsburgh's "Best Defensive Outfielder" prior to both the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
