Norfolk Tides News Release
Norfolk was held to three hits in a 1-0 loss to Buffalo Thursday afternoon.
Four different Bisons pitchers combined on the three-hit shutout, which was the first time the Tides have been blanked this season. Brandon Knight, Kyle Snyder (1-5) and Jon Switzer combined to keep the Tides offense off the board into the eighth inning, while Elmer Dessens got the final four outs of the contest to record his seventh save of the year.
The lone run of the contest came in the sixth inning, as Luis Rivera singled and moved to second when Jolbert Cabrera could not handle a pickoff throw from Ross Wolf (2-2). One out later Jesus Feliciano singled through the right side to give the Bisons the lead.
Norfolk threatened to tie the score in the ninth inning, as Justin Christian lined a pinch-hit double high off the wall in left center field. After a groundout moved Christian to third, Dessens struck out Melvin Dorta swinging to end the contest.
Both Norfolk starter Chris Waters and Bisons starter Brandon Knight tossed four shutout innings to begin the game before being removed after an hour and 12 minute rain delay prior to the start of the fifth inning.
The Tides and Bisons will conclude their four-game series on Friday night, with first pitch from Harbor Park scheduled for 7:15. Andy Mitchell (4-1, 3.41) is slated to take the mound for Norfolk against right-hander Lance Broadway (0-2, 5.40).
