
McConnell to Join Curve Broadcast Team for Erie Series

ALTOONA- Long-time National Hockey League play-by-play broadcaster Matt McConnell will join lead Altoona Curve (AA/Pittsburgh Pirates) play-by-play announcer Paul Steigerwald on the call of the Curve's three-game series against the Erie SeaWolves in Erie beginning Monday night.
McConnell has worked as both a radio and television play-by-play announcer in the NHL for the past 11 seasons, including a stint along side Steigerwald with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1996-99. He has also called the action for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (1993-96) and Atlanta Thrashers (2000-03), and joined the Minnesota Wild as the club's television voice prior to the 2003-04 NHL season.
McConnell has also broadcast regular season and playoff games for NHL Radio, the league's exclusive rights holder, and covered the 2001 Stanley Cup finals between Colorado and New Jersey for ESPN/NHL International. Also in 2001, he filled in as a broadcaster for the NBA on TNT.
A 1985 graduate of Michigan State University, McConnell began his broadcasting career calling MSU hockey and basketball games as a student. McConnell and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Minnesota with their daughter, Zoe.
Steigerwald is in his first season as the lead play-by-play voice of the Altoona Curve, while also serving as a long-time member of the Pittsburgh Penguins radio and TV broadcast team. Steigerwald has a part of the Penguins broadcast team since the 1984 season, and has served as the radio play-by-play voice for the Pens since the start of the 2000 season.
The flagship station for 2005 Altoona Curve Baseball is WHPA 93.5 FM in Cambria County and all 142 games can also be heard on-line at www.altoonacurve.com.
