West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (33-45) staged a late comeback, defeating the first place Reno Aces (48-30) on right fielder Joe McCarthy's eighth inning two-run double.

Following two walks to start the inning, McCarthy pulled a double past diving Reno first baseman Seth Beer to give Sacramento a 6-5 lead.

The River Cats originally led 4-2, scoring three runs on five singles against righty Josh Green in the second inning.

After third baseman Jason Krizan and McCarthy's base hits to kick off the inning, shortstop Mauricio Dubón tied the game at two with an RBI knock. Two batters later, left fielder Bryce Johnson gave Sacramento its first lead with a two-run single to score McCarthy and Dubón.

Left-handed reliever Luis González was excellent over his first 2.0 innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth, loading the bases with one out before exiting. Righty Gerson Bautista struggled to find the strike zone, walking in the tying run and surrendering a sacrifice fly before escaping the inning with a 5-4 deficit.

Bautista, Camilo Doval, and Silvino Bracho combined to shut out the Aces over the final 3.0 innings, with Krizan closing out Bracho's third save with a diving play.

Following the off day, left-hander Sammy Long (0-0, 0.00) will kick off the River Cats' first series with the El Paso Chihuahuas on Thursday. He'll take on lefty Luke Westphal (1-0, 4.91). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. (PT). Listen online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.
