COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew and U.S. National team forward Brian McBride and his wife, Dina, are featured in the 2003 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue that hits snewsstands today, Wednesday, February 19.

McBride is one of 10 athletes featured in the popular issue that will reach a remarkable 50 million adults in the United States alone. Also featured in the issue is Los Angeles Galaxy and fellow National Team star Cobi Jones and his girlfriend Shannon Foster.

McBride and Jones did their photo shoot on the Hudson River in New York City on August 1, 2002. This is the sixth consecutive year the issue has featured figures from the world of sports. Soccer and tennis are the only sports to have more than one athlete represented.

"The inclusion of both Brian and Cobi in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, a true pop-culture phenomenon, marks yet another milestone in the continuing growth and emergence of soccer in America," Crew President/General Manager Jim Smith said. "The development of Major League Soccer and the U.S.'s performance at last summer's World Cup have helped to elevate soccer's profile to the point that two of the 10 professional athletes pictured in the magazine are soccer players. Brian is a classy ambassador for the sport, the Columbus Crew and the greater-Columbus community, and we are proud to have he and Dina representing us."

The other eight athletes featured are tennis superstar Serena Williams, Olympic gold medal figure skater Ekaterina Goordeeva, NASCAR young gun Dale Earnhardt Jr., Shaun Alexander of the Seattle Seahawks, N.Y. Yankees ace Roger Clemens, tennis star Tommy Haas, Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier and PGA Tour player David Toms.

The SI Swimsuit Issue features 19 of the world's most beautiful supermodels posing at exotic locations in six countries of four continents. The issue can also be seen on-line at SI.com.

McBride is currently on loan with Everton of the English Premier League. He has tallied four goals in five games since joining the Blues. The MLS All-Star is slated to return in time for Major League Soccer's "Opening Day" on Saturday, April 5.

The Crew and McBride will take on Jones and the Galaxy at Columbus Crew Stadium at 4 p.m. on April 5 in a game that is televised nationally on ABC. It is the only MLS game televised that day and will kickoff the league's eighth season.
