Galaxy's Cobi Jones in 2003 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

PASADENA, CA (Wednesday, February 19, 2003) - Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Cobi Jones and Columbus Crew forward Brian McBride appear in the 2003 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, which hits newsstands today, Wednesday, February 19. Jones (with girlfriend Shannon Foster) and McBride (with wife Dina) were among several male athletes featured in the annual "Better Halves" portion of the issue.

Teammates on the 2002 U.S. World Cup team, Jones and McBride are the first American male soccer players featured in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The duo square off on Saturday, April 5 at Columbus Crew Stadium to kick off the 2003 MLS season, the League's eighth. The contest between the defending MLS Cup Champion Galaxy and the most recent Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champion Crew will be broadcast live on ABC Sports at 1:00 p.m. PT.

Other athletes featured with their better halves in this year's SI swimsuit edition include Shaun Alexander of the Seattle Seahawks and his wife, Valerie; N.Y. Yankees ace Roger Clemens and his wife, Debbie; tennis star Tommy Haas and Sandy Meyer Woelden; Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier and Caroline Portelance; and PGA Tour player David Toms and his wife, Sonya.

Nearly 50 million adults will read the 2003 SI Swimsuit Issue in the United States alone (representing nearly 30% of the U.S. adult population), more than doubling the magazine's normal weekly readership of 21 million. Fifteen million women - nearly three times the normal SI female readership - will read the special edition, which has been an American institution since 1964.

The L.A. Galaxy will open the 2003 MLS season on April 5 vs. the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium. Following a league record eight-game road trip, the Galaxy will open its new home The Home Depot Center on Saturday, June 7 vs. the Colorado Rapids.
