McAdoo's Late Two-Run Single Lifts MoonDogs over Huskies

DULUTH, Minn. - The Mankato MoonDogs took down the Duluth Huskies, 4-2, in a Northwoods League baseball game played at Wade Stadium, Friday night.

The MoonDogs, now 23-21 overall in 2022 with a 4-6 second-half record following the victory, while the Huskies, now 22-21, fell to 3-7 in the second-half standings.

Charles McAdoo (San Jose State) lifted the MoonDogs over the Huskies offensively. His eighth-inning single through the right side scored Ariel Armas (San Diego) and Kai Roberts (Utah) to give the MoonDogs the 4-2 lead they rode to victory.

MoonDogs' closing pitcher and Northwoods League Great Plains All-Star, Tyson Neighbors (Kansas State), secured the win when he picked up his eighth save of the summer in the ninth inning.

Duluth led in the score column for the majority of Friday's ballgame. After taking the lead by scoring in the bottom of the first, both sides scored in the third. The MoonDogs evened the score at 2-2 with a run in the top half of the sixth.

Donovan Schultz (Evansville) dealt out four and two-thirds of two-run baseball with eight hits against and eight strikeouts along the way. In relief, Taisei Yahiro (Grand Canyon) led the MoonDogs out of the fifth frame before holding Duluth scoreless in the sixth. Picking up the win to improve to 1-0, Jakob Meyer (Evansville) threw up scoreless seventh and eighth innings for Mankato.

Up next, the MoonDogs return home to host the Huskies, Saturday at 6:35 p.m.
