FOND DU LAC, WI - The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders fell at home to the Lakeshore Chinooks, 5-2, in front of 1,256 fans, the largest crowd of the season at Herr-Baker Field.
The loss marks the third straight for the Dock Spiders, and their seventh in the last eight games. The Dock Spiders fall to 23-22 on the year and to 4-7 in the second half. The Chinooks, meanwhile, improved to 25-21 overall and 7-3 in the second half, just a half game behind the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters for the lead in the Great Lakes West Division.
Scott Rouse (2-2, Ohio Dominican) earned the win for the Chinooks after six shutout innings, while David Hagaman (1-3, West Virginia) took the loss for the Dock Spiders.
For the second straight night, the Chinooks got on the board first with a run in the first off two Dock Spiders errors that allowed Caden Kaiser (Ohio State) to score from second. They would then tally three more in the fourth off Hagaman to take a 4-0 lead. Kaiser would drive in two with a double to help build the advantage. The Chinooks would tally another in the sixth with a single from Kaiser, who tallied three RBI on the day, to take a 5-0 lead.
Andrew Pogue (Illinois) led the way for the Dock Spiders bullpen, striking out a career-high seven over 3.2 shutout innings.
On offense, the Dock Spiders cut into the Chinooks lead with a run in the seventh when Connor Manthey (Bradley) made a mad dash for home to score on a passed ball. In the ninth, Parker Noland (Vanderbilt) drove home his ninth run of the year with a sacrifice fly to center. Manthey also tallied a multi-hit night in his first appearance with the Dock Spiders since July 2 against Kokomo.
The Dock Spiders hit the road for a weekend series with the Battle Creek Battle Jacks starting tomorrow night at MCCU Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET.
