Springfield Armor News Release

Springfield, Mass. - Springfield Armor forward James Mays has been selected to participate in the 2013 NBA Development League All-Star Game in Houston on February 16, the league announced today. Mays was selected as the lone Armor representative out of 20 players that were chosen via votes from all 16 NBA D-League coaches.

"We're thrilled that the coaches have voted James onto the All-Star team," said Armor head coach Bob MacKinnon. "James comes in and plays hard every day and we're happy that he will be representing our organization at the festivities in Houston. This is a well-deserved honor."

The honor is the first for Mays, 26, in his second season in the NBA D-League. Mays was acquired by the Armor via the affiliate player rule after attending training camp with Springfield's NBA affiliate, the Brooklyn Nets. Mays is currently averaging 16.9 points, 10.9 rebounds (second in the NBA D-League), 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks in 36.6 minutes through 24 games (all starts). Mays is tied for the league lead with 13 double-doubles, just two shy of the single-season franchise record.

Mays is the fifth NBA D-League All-Star in the four-year history of the Springfield Armor, joining guard Scottie Reynolds (2011), guard JamesOn Curry (2012), center Jeff Foote (2012) and guard Jerry Smith (2012).

The seventh annual NBA D-League All-Star Game is set to tip off on Saturday, February 16th at Sprint Arena at NBA All-Star Jam Session at the Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center. The contest will be broadcast live nationally on NBA TV at 3:00 p.m. EST.
