Mayhem Win Preseason Opener
October 16, 2015 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Mayhem News Release
The Macon Mayhem took a positive first step in the Southern Professional Hockey League with a 3-1 preseason victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz in Fayetteville Friday night.
Six different players had points for the Mayhem, and goaltender David Jacobson turned aside 32 of the 33 shots he faced to get the preseason victory.
The Mayhem will host the Columbus Cottonmouths Saturday at the Macon Coliseum at 7:30 in the final tune-up for its inaugural season in the SPHL. That game is a fund raiser to benefit the Cherry Blossom festival with all tickets on sale for only five dollars.
Jeff Sanders opened the scoring for the Mayhem at 4:19 of the first period, with John Schiavo and Samuel Higgins getting the assists. It didn't take long in the second period for the Mayhem to extend its lead. Vadim Guskov took only eight seconds after the opening face-off of the period to notch an unassisted goal making it 2-0. Before the period ended, Robert Morton made it 3-0 with some help from Jason Popek with 2:15 left in the period.
Jacobson and the Mayhem were just 2:45 away from a shutout but Joseph Manno spoiled the bid, notching Fayetteville's goal.
The Mayhem begin regular season play on October 23rd against the defending champion Knoxville Ice Bears at the Centreplex.
