Mayhem to Host Star Wars Night on Saturday

MACON, GA- After a weekend where the Macon Mayhem captured four of the possible six points, the team will travel to Roanoke on Thursday to take on the Rail Yard Dawgs before returning home for Star Wars Night on Saturday night.

WEEKEND RECAP

The Mayhem played their first three-in-three of the season at home on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. After getting off on the wrong foot with a 4-2 loss to the Evansville Thunderbolts, they responded nicely by winning the next two against Evansville and the Birmingham Bulls.

The team defeated the Thunderbolts 6-4 on Friday, as Troy Passingham made 43 saves on 47 shots to secure the victory. Four different players recorded multiple points, led by captain Daniel Gentzler and John Gustafsson with three points apiece.

The Mayhem then picked up a dominant 5-1 win over Birmingham on Saturday night. They outshot the Bulls 44-18, including a 14-2 margin in the first period. Passingham earned his second straight win, saving 17 of the 18 shots he faced. Gentzler tallied a goal and three assists, while Caleb Cameron chipped in three assists and Jake Trask recorded two goals and an assist. Gentzler led the Mayhem with six points on the weekend, and Cameron was right behind him with five points.

WEEKEND PREVIEW

The weekend slate of games gets started on Thursday night, as the Mayhem travel to Roanoke for the first time this season to take on the Rail Yard Dawgs. The second and last game of the weekend is Saturday at the Macon Coliseum against the Fayetteville Marksmen. Saturday is Star Wars Night, as fans are invited to dress up as their favorite Star Wars character. The team will be wearing specialty Chewbacca-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off immediately following Saturday's game. A portion of the proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Middle Georgia.

ROANOKE RAIL YARD DAWGS

Team Record: 1-4-1 (3 points; 9th Place)

Last Meeting: Roanoke defeated Macon 5-4 in overtime on Friday, October 27

Leading Scorer: Riley Spraggs (6 games played, 4 goals, 3 assists, 7 points)

Goaltending Situation: Ryan de Melo (1-1-1, 3.74 goals against average, 0.902 save percentage); Brad Barone (0-3-0, 4.61 GAA, 0.899 SV%)

Roanoke is coming off of a weekend in which they went 0-1-1 against the Mississippi RiverKings, losing 4-3 in overtime and 4-2 in regulation. They are now winless in their last four games, with their last win being the 5-4 overtime win over the Mayhem on October 27.

The Rail Yard Dawgs have six players with four or more points this season, but they have struggled in the goal scoring department, as they are ninth in goals per game at 2.83. They also allow the second-most goals per game at 4.17 per game. The team's special teams are a strength, however, as they rank third in the SPHL in both power play and penalty kill.

FAYETTEVILLE MARKSMEN

Team Record: 2-5-1 (5 points; 8th Place)

Leading Scorer: Jake Hauswirth (8 GP, 4 goals, 11 assists, 15 points - 1st in SPHL)

Goaltending Situation: Peter Di Salvo (2-3-1, 4.37 GAA, 0.872 SV%); Matt Zenzola (0-1-0, 6.20 GAA, 0.800 SV%); Michael Santaguida (0-1-0, 5.05 GAA, 0.800 SV%)

The rebranded Marksmen come to Macon for the first time, coming off of two losses to the Pensacola Ice Flyers this past weekend. Fayetteville ranks seventh in goals per game at 3.13, led by the SPHL's leader in points, Jake Hauswirth. They have also given up the most goals per game, as they allow 4.88 goals per game. Despite ranking fifth in power play percentage at 20.00%, they rank last in penalty kill at 69.23%.

TRANSACTION NEWS

Defenseman Vinny Muto has returned from loan to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Muto played two games in Florida, recording no points and a minus-one rating. In five games prior to his promotion, the Niagara Falls, NY native recorded two assists.
