Macon Mayhem News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Macon Mayhem travelled to Southaven, MS tonight to take on the Mississippi RiverKings for the first time this season. In this back and forth game, the Mayhem were able to hold on to win 4-3.

The Mayhem got on the board first in Southaven, when John Siemer scored on the power play, assisted by Stephen Pierog. The penalty on Mississippi was a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding on RiverKings assistant captain Todd Hosmer. That was the only goal Macon would get on the long power play, and that allowed Mississippi to tie the game up about five minutes later. Ryan Marcuz scored on the power play, and then Cullen Bradshaw scored a goal 18 seconds later to give the RiverKings a 2-1 lead.

The second period featured a lot of scoring, as the Mayhem tied the game up 5:54 into the second on Daniel Echeverri's first goal of his professional hockey career. Siemer earned his second point of the game, tallying an assist, and Daniel Gentzler also assisted on the goal. Mississippi's Mike Moran answered just over two minutes later to give the RiverKings the 3-2 lead. With 4:22 left in the second, Stathis Soumelidis scored against his former team to tie the game at 3-3. Dennis Sicard recorded the assist on the goal.

Macon took an early 4-3 lead in the third period when Nick Grasso scored his first of the year off of a great pass from Collin MacDonald. RiverKings forward Ryan Marcuz thought he tied the game up a few minutes later, but the goal was waved off because Marcuz used a high stick to bat the puck in. Mississippi thought they had tied the game again about halfway through the third period on a puck that took a strange bounce from behind the net and past the goal line, but the referee ruled that a RiverKings player batted the puck into the net with his hand. The Mayhem and starting goaltender Garrett Bartus held on to win the game 4-3. Macon moves to 3-1-1 with the win.
