Evansville Thunderbolts News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN -- Evansville and Knoxville combined for 89 shots and 12 power plays in a frenzied affair that needed overtime to resolve. Evansville's offense unleashed a shot barrage at Knoxville netminder Michael Doan, but fell short of a win, losing 4-3. The Thunderbolts set SPHL team game highs for most shots in the second period (22) and most shots in a game (54).

Knoxville scored first on the power play. Jason Price coasted through the defensive zone to get the puck past Thunderbolt's Tanner Milliron, who started his second consecutive game. Evansville tied the game late in the first period on David Williams' third goal of the season.

The second period has been a struggle early in the season for the Thunderbolts. Five games into the season they have been outscored in the middle frame 10 - 2. Johnny Daniels scored 6:16 in to the second to give Evansville its first lead. However, 48 seconds later Knoxville would tie it up on a Trever Hertz goal. Hertz would score later in the period to put Knoxville back on top by one.

Evansville fired 17 more shots at the net in the third period. They couldn't convert two more power play opportunities in the final 20 minutes. On their 50th shot of the night, Evansville would tie the game at three. Johnny Daniels netted his second goal of the game and third of the season to force overtime.

Knoxville scored 27 seconds into overtime to prevent Evansville from achieving its first franchise victory. After a missed Johnny Daniels shot, Adam Stuart received a long pass at the Evansville blueline. He shook off his defender and skate in alone on Milliron.
