Macon Mayhem News Release
MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem locked up the William B. Coffey Trophy as Regular Season Champions in the SPHL with tonight's 4-1 victory over the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.
It took almost the whole first period before the scoring began in this game, as the first goal came with just six seconds left in the first period. Macon's Jake Trask received a pass at the back door from Daniel Gentzler, and he slammed the one-timer home.
In the second period, but just 1:58 in game time later, Roanoke answered with a goal from Steve Mele. He took a pass from Sean Orlando and found the back of the net. The Mayhem would answer near the end of the period, when Ryan Michel scored on the backhand with 3:50 left. Collin MacDonald and Jake Trask both collected assists for their second points of the game.
The Mayhem added to their lead at the 15:03 mark of the third period. Dennis Sicard took a slap shot from the point that found its way past Roanoke goaltender Ty Reichenbach - assisted by John Siemer and Michel. Stathis Soumelidis scored his 10th goal of the season into the empty net at the end of the game to seal the Mayhem's 4-1 victory - giving them the William B. Coffey Trophy as Regular Season Champions in the SPHL.
