Ice Bears Blanked by Pensacola
Knoxville, TN (April 07, 2017) Matt Zenzola stopped all 30 shots he faced and the Pensacola Ice Flyers shut out the Knoxville Ice Bears 5-0 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum Friday night. It's the first shutout loss at home for the Ice Bears this season.
Pensacola scored off a rebound from Josh Harris at 14:35 of the first. Harris was able to collect a loose puck on his backhand on the left side of the crease and flip it over the right shoulder of Dylan Wells.
The Ice Bears nearly tied the game moments later with a 2-on-1 with Mark Pustin and Danny Cesarz. Pustin's saucer pass slipped through a Pensacola defensemen right to Cesarz's stick. Cesarz deked Matt Zenzola to set up an open net, but his backhand sailed wide left and the game remained scoreless at the first intermission.
The Ice Flyers extended the lead to 2-0 at 9:20 of the second when Massimo Lamacchia lifted a saucer pass from the right corner into the crease. Louis Belisle poked a one-timer past Wells for his 17th goal of the season. Lamacchia skated through the left circle and beat Wells five-hole to give Pensacola a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Gregory Dodds replaced Wells to begin the third period. Stephen Hrehoriak and Josh Cousineau added goals for Pensacola in the final frame.
The Rivermen tied the game when Justin Hoomaian weaved along the right goal line and flipped the puck past Billet's glove at 9:11 of the third.
