Macon Mayhem News Release

LAST GAME PLAYED:

Both teams are riding current win streaks after last weekend. The Mayhem have won their last three games after 6-1 and 4-1 wins over the Fayetteville Marksmen. Pensacola has racked up two straight victories, sweeping the Birmingham Bulls last weekend with 7-6 and 3-0 victories.

SCOUTING THE ICE FLYERS:

With goaltender Gordon Defiel on injured reserve, head coach Jeff Bes has been rolling with Brian Billett as the starting goaltender, and he has performed well. In 20 games, the former Knoxville Ice Bear Billett posts a 2.59 GAA and .901 SV%. While ranking first in goals against throughout the season, Pensacola has fallen off a bit lately. They are 5-3-2 over their last 10 games, but they have allowed 3.40 goals per game - compared to the 2.77 goals against per game throughout the season. Garrett Milan has been one of the hottest players in the league, recording at least one point in 11 of his last 12 games. Over that stretch, he has three goals, 14 assists and 17 points.

BATTLE FOR POSITION:

Tonight's game between the Mayhem and Ice Flyers is a battle for second place in the standings, as Pensacola sits just two points ahead of the Mayhem, and it is the ninth and final meeting of the season between the two teams. In eight meetings this season, both teams have claimed four victories.

THE CHAMPS ARE HERE:

After battling through an up-and-down year for most of the regular season, the defending champion Mayhem are hitting their stride at the right moment. With just three games left in the regular season, the Mayhem are on a three-game win streak and a six-game point streak. Their only loss of any variety in the last six games came on March 23rd, when they fell to the first-place Peoria Rivermen 2-1 in overtime.

RACE FOR THE SCORING CROWN:

Mayhem winger Jake Trask enters the three-game weekend three points behind Knoxville's Berkley Scott for the SPHL's scoring title. Scott enters the weekend with 68 points in 54 and has two games left on the schedule against Pensacola on Friday and Saturday. Trask trails him with 65 points in just 50 games, and he has three games to try and make up the deficit.

BACK IN ACTION:

The boys travel to Birmingham to take on the Bulls on Friday, before returning home to finish the regular season against the Evansville Thunderbolts on Saturday night.
