Despite Late Rally, Ice Flyers Fall 4-2 to Mayhem

PENSACOLA, FL. - Pensacola traveled to Macon, Georgia for a Thursday evening matchup with the Mayhem to determine second place in the SPHL standings. It was the first of its final three games of the regular season for the Ice Flyers before they travel to Knoxville for two games against the Ice Bears. Unfortunately after tying it up in the first, the Ice Flyers gave up three goals, two of which came on power plays, eventually falling 4-2. Charlie Adams and Garrett Milan scored the two goals for Pensacola. Macon's goals came from John Siemer, Dylan Vader Esch, Kevin Irwin, and Stathis Soumelidis.

The Mayhem controlled the first recording 17 shots compared to Ice Flyers' four shots. Macon's John Siemer scored the first goal of the game at 6:07 with assists from Stathis Soumelidia and Dylan Denomme.

Ice Flyers came out ready to play in the second outshooting Macon 14-5. Eight minutes into the first, Charlie Adams scored on the power play with assists from Garrett Milan and Troy Vance at 8:19. Macon's Dylan Vader Esch scored a power play goal at 15:35, assisted by Zach Urban and Daniel Gentzler. Pensacola outshot Macon 14-5, but trailed 2-1 going into the third.

Just over one minute into the third, Kevin Irwin of Macon scored at 1:10. Vinny Muto and Caleb Cameron assisted on the goal. Stathis Soumelidis scored the Mayhem's second power play goal of the night at 4:31 into the third with assists by Zach Urban and Jake Trask. Pensacola's Garrett Milan netted the second Ice Flyer's goal bringing their score to two. Assists came from Liam Kerins and Charlie Adams at 5:59. The Ice Flyers ended the third period with a power play and 6-4 advantage, but the Mayhem held on to win 4-2.

Notes:

Pensacola travels to Knoxville for back-to-back games Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 at 6:35 p.m. They'll face off against the Ice Bears for the last two games of the regular season at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

The SPHL Challenge Round Show will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8 at Buffalo Wild Wings. During this show, the top four teams in the league will select who they want to face off against in the first round of the 2018 SPHL Playoffs. The full team will be in attendance, and the show will be broadcast on Facebook Live. There will be multiple raffles and fun games going on during the show for the fans in attendance.

Pensacola's first challenge round game will be on Wednesday, April 11 or Thursday, April 12 at 7:05PM. Game 2 of the Challenge Round will occur on Friday, April 13 or Saturday, April 14 in the TBD opponent's venue. Game 3 if necessary will take place in Pelham, Alabama at the Pelham Civic Complex at 5pm on Sunday, April 15.
