
Mayer Joins Swiss National Team for World Championship

MONTREAL, QUEBEC - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced today that Bulldogs goaltender Robert Mayer has joined the Swiss National Team in preparation for the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship from May 9th to May 25th in Minsk, Belarus.
In 29 games with Hamilton this season, Mayer had a record of 10-14-4 with a 2.80 goals-against average and .909 save percentage. The Havirov, Czech Republic-born goaltender also helped Geneve-Servette HC to a gold medal in the Spengler Cup this past December. In two games in the tournament, including the gold medal game, the 6'1", 199-pound netminder had a record of 2-0-0 with a 2.95 goals-against average and .918 save percentage.
In 128 career American Hockey League regular season games with the Bulldogs, the 24-year-old has a record of 49-59-11 with a 2.92 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. He has previously represented Switzerland internationally at the IIHF Under-18 and Under-20 Championships.
Mayer was originally signed as a free agent by the Canadiens on September 25th, 2008.
The Bulldogs will return to FirstOntario Centre on Saturday, April 19th, when they will host the Syracuse Crunch (AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning) at 7:00 p.m.
