SEA DOGS SECURE FRIDAY NIGHT WIN The Portland Sea Dogs won Friday's night contest in Hartford, 5-2 led by outstanding pitching. Portland claimed the lead first in the top of the second when Niko Kavadas hit a lead off double before advancing to third on a fly out. A sacrifice fly by Chase Meidroth brought Kavadas home to score to put Portland on top, 1-0. Corey Rosier stole his twenty-first stolen base of the season in the top of the fifth inning after reaching on a bunt single before advancing to second when Sikes was hit by a pitch. Rosier then stole third before scoring on a throwing error by the catcher. Nick Yorke grounded out to first base to bring Sikes home and Portland led, 3-1. In the top of the sixth, Nathan Hickey doubled for the second time of the ballgame to record his third double with Portland. Hickey advanced to third on a single by Chase Meidroth before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Lugo. The Sea Dogs extended the lead, 5-1 after an RBI single by Corey Rosier scored Meidroth. Hunter Goodman recorded an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth but Portland held on to take game four, 5-2.

RIO GOMEZ WAS PERFECT After coming in to relieve in the bottom of the fourth inning on Friday night, Rio Gomez retired all twelve Yard Goats he faced in order, four of which were retired by strikeouts. With his four innings of scoreless ball, Gomez matched a career-high in innings pitched. The first 4.0 inning appearance for Gomez came back on July 23, 2021 vs Harrisburg.

LEADING THE WAY The Sea Dogs continue to lead the Eastern League in stolen bases (90), doubles (70) and ERA (3.28). They also have the second-best batting average (.248) in the league.

STARTING STAFF STILL STRONG The starting rotation for Portland (Gambrell, Liu, Nail, Sharp and Van Belle) has been exceptionally strong for the Sea Dogs. They have a 12-6 record with a 2.95 ERA. They have allowed 57 earned runs in 173.2 innings while striking out 158.

CLUTCH HITTING With runners in scoring position, the Sea Dogs are hitting .252 with 22 doubles and six home runs. Chase Meidroth leads the way with a .625 average with runners in scoring position followed by Tyler Dearden (.429) and Ceddanne Rafaela (.359).

WHERE DO WE STAND The Sea Dogs remain in first place of the Northeast Division of the Eastern League. They currently lead the second-place Patriots by 1.0 game while the Hartford Yard Goats are currently in third place, 3.5 games behind the Sea Dogs.

THIS DAY IN SEA DOGS HISTORY May 21, 2008 - Aaron Bates snapped a 5-5 tie with a 2-out, 2-run double in the top of the 9th inning, rallying the Sea Dogs past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 9-5. Bubba Bell followed with a 2-run single and finished 4-for-5, playing in his first game since May 9.

PITCHING PREVIEW RHP Brian Van Belle will take the mound for the Sea Dogs in game one of today's doubleheader while LHP Brendan Nail is set to start for game two. Van Belle last started on May 14 against Somerset and tossed 6.2 innings allowing one run on six hits while walking four and striking out four. His four walks were a career high while he matched his season-high with four strikeouts. Nail pitched 2.0 innings against the Yard Goats on May 18th and allowed two runs (both unearned) on one hit while walking one and striking out two.
