Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA - Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Max Montes announced today his commitment to head to The Ohio State University to continue his hockey and education career. Montes, who is in his third full season with Dubuque, will become the third current Fighting Saint to head to Columbus, Ohio, joining Theo Wallberg and Noah Powell.
This season, Montes has played in all but one game for Dubuque and ranks second on the team with 11 goals to go with nine assists and 20 points on the season. He is currently on pace to break or tie all of his previous career highs this season.
"Max has grown tremendously during his time in Dubuque and is one of the best two forwards in the conference," said Fighting Saints President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kalle Larsson. "He had a lot of interest from colleges. We are excited for him and his family on the commitment to Ohio State. He will join several former Fighting Saints in Columbus!"
In his career with Dubuque, Montes has amassed 34 goals, 33 assists and 74 penalty minutes in 135 career games played. His point production also has a remarkable correlation to team success. The Fighting Saints are 21-6-0-1 when Montes scores a goal and are 37-11-1-2 when he records a single point.
Before joining the Fighting Saints full time in the 2020-21 season, Montes played one game for Dubuque as an affiliate call up in 2019-20 and one game for the Janesville Jets of the NAHL in the same season. In youth, he developed through the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals AAA program.
The Ohio State University Buckeyes are led by 10th year head coach Steve Rohlik. As of this release, they rank third in the Big Ten Conference with an overall record of 16-9-1 and rank 8th in the nation in both the USA Today and USCHO polls.
