High Desert Mavericks News Release

The last week has been filled with struggles for the Mavs. Any momentum from Thursday's comeback win was nowhere to be found on Friday as Lancaster dominated a double-header with the Mavs, winning 13-3 and 5-1.

Game one was all about offense, as the JetHawks slugged a season- high five homers. Play resumed from a suspended game on April 21 in the top of the second inning with the bases loaded. The contest had an ominous start as Albert Cartwright delivered a bases-clearing triple to immediately make it a 4-0 game.

Brandon Barnes and Lee Cruz homered in the third to put the JetHawks up 7-0. The Mavs made it 7-2 the next inning when Johermyn Chavez connected on a two-run homer.

The JetHawks continued to go deep in the sixth, getting back-to- back homers with by Barnes and Mark Ori. Mavericks pitcher Kenn Kasparek allowed four homers in just 4.1 innings, matching his total for the entire season.

Rich Poythress homered in the sixth to pull the Mavs within 9-3. The JetHawks scored four for good measure in the seventh, highlighted by a three-run homer from Federico Hernandez.

The second game was all about pitching for Lancaster. Dallas Keuchel tossed a complete game, limiting the Mavs to just one run and four hits.

Keuchel (3-5) retired the first 13 batters he faced before allowing a one-out single in the fifth. He struck out six without issuing a walk.

Maikel Cleto was able to match Keuchel early on, but the JetHawks broke through in the fourth. David Flores delivered a two-out RBI single to make it 1-0.

Lancaster took control with three runs in the fifth. Cartwright and Cruz each had RBI singles, and a wild pitch scored another.

Cruz had a monster day, going 6-for-7 over both games, including a 4-for-4 game in the nightcap. He finished with three extra base hits and three RBI's.

The JetHawks added another run in the sixth to go ahead by five. The Mavs finally got on the board in the fifth, and looked like more could be on the way with two on and none out.

Keuchel rebounded and used a strikeout and a double play to end the inning and vanquish any chance of a big rally.

After losing seven of their last eight games, the Mavs will try and end the first half with a win when they face Lancaster Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Make sure to come to Mavericks Stadium to support the Mavericks and enjoy the fireworks show after the game!
