Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Eric Oliver hit the Quakes' first grand slam of the 2010 season and Patrick Corbin fired six shut-out innings, as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes beat the Inland Empire 66ers by a score of 7-1 on Friday night, in front of a great crowd of 4,202 at The Epicenter.
Oliver's first home run in a Quakes' uniform was a big one, as it opened up a 3-1 game in the bottom of the eighth inning
Leading 3-1, Quakes' reliever Steven Geltz came on in the top of the eighth inning with the tying runs aboard and only one out. Geltz got into trouble by walking Travis Denker to load the bases for Austin Gallagher. Geltz got out of the jam though, leaving the sacks full of 66ers by striking out Gallagher on a 3-2 pitch, then popping up Alex Garabedian to end the frame.
Oliver's slam came with two outs, giving the Quakes a commanding 7-1 edge over 66ers' reliever Brandon Mann.
Geltz mopped up in the ninth, putting the 66ers down in order to secure his second save of the year.
Quakes' starter Patrick Corbin (2-1) was strong, allowing just three hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. The left-hander fanned seven and left with a 1-0 lead.
The Quakes padded their 1-0 advantage in the seventh, as Dwayne Bailey drove in a run with an RBI triple and Beau Brooks brought home Bailey with a sac fly, making it 3-0 against Inland Empire starter JonMichael Redding (2-5).
The 66ers got their one and only run against Nick Pugliese, who worked a scoreless seventh, but gave up three consecutive hits, allowing Inland Empire on the board at 3-1.
The Quakes (39-30) look for a 40-win first half, sending Matt Shoemaker (5-4) to the mound on Saturday night, in the final game of the 70-game first half. The 66ers will counter with left-hander Aaron Miller (1-4).
Saturday night will be a special Father's Day Celebration, as Dads and Kids will be allowed to have a game of catch on the field, beginning at 5:50pm, through 6:10pm. Saturday will also feature a Fireworks Spectacular at the conclusion of the game, thanks to KOLA 99.9.
