Mavs Trounce 66ers, Avoid Sweep

San Bernardino, CA- The High Desert Mavericks used a 21-hit attack in a 12-3 win over the Inland Empire 66ers at San Manuel Stadium on Wednesday. The win staved off a sweep as the 66ers had won the first two games of the series; the Sixers had to settle for a 5-2 homestand.

Josh Morgan and David Lyon led the way for High Desert (65-44, 22-17) as the Mavs improved to 16-2 on the year against Inland Empire. Morgan, a Corona native, had four hits and two RBI while improving his batting average from .281 to .288. Lyon missed a cycle by a triple but had a double and launched his 13th homer of the year on a three-hit night. The Mavericks also got three hit games from Jose Cardona and Kevin Torres. Cardona had a double and two RBI.

Jeremy Rhoades (4-10) took the loss allowing nine runs (six earned) on ten hits in 3.1 IP for Inland Empire (38-72, 15-25). San Bernardino native Adam Quintana tossed the first five innings for the Mavs and earned the win to improve to 5-4. He gave up two runs on four hits with three Ks and two walks. The Sixers got both of their runs against Quintana on solo homers as Michael Hermosillo hit his first with the club and Jeff Boehm tagged his third. Boehm and David Fletcher each had two-hit games for the 66ers while Michael Strentz extended his hitting streak to 11-games.
