Blaze Stumble as Giants Pounce on Opportunities

August 4, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

The Bakersfield Blaze have found success away from Sam Lynn Ballpark all season long and they look to find some of that fortune again after dropping the finale of a 7-game homestand, 6-4 to the San Jose Giants.

At 60-50 this season, Bakersfield still leads the second half of North Division play by five games and they are currently three games in front of San Jose for the Wild Card.

San Jose capitalized on several plays to even the season series with the Blaze at 8-8, while the Blaze could not string together consecutive hits.

With plenty of games still at hand, neither team can't afford an extended slump.

Bakersfield will now travel to Lake Elsinore for a 4-game series before they drive back to Visalia for a brief three game stint.

Offensively the Blaze had a big night from Joe DeCarlo who went 3-4 at the plate with a double, walk, and 2 RBI. DeCarlo wasn't alone as Tyler Marlette and Jay Baum went 2-4 as the Blaze had 12 hits in the affair.

The biggest difference on Wednesday night for the Blaze was the defense as the unit committed another three errors as they did in a Game 2 loss.

San Jose salvaged the road trip by going 3-4, while the Blaze went 2-5 during the homestand. With their 35-18 road record, Bakersfield will open up at Lake Elsinore Thursday night at 7:00pm. David Gascon will have the call on TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
