INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - Charlie Effinger stopped all 32 shots in the Missouri Mavericks' 4-0 shutout win over the Tulsa Oilers Sunday evening at Independence Events Center en route to his third shutout of the season. David Pszenyczny added three assists in the victory and John-Scott Dickson recorded two points on a goal and an assist. With the victory, the Mavericks now sit alone in third place in the Central Hockey League's Turner Conference with a two-point lead over the Quad City Mallards and Rapid City Rush and now sit just six points back of the Fort Wayne Komets for second place in the conference.
The Mavs and Tulsa went scoreless for nearly the entire half of regulation, until Brandon Coccimiglio buried a one-timer from Dale Mahovsky at the 8:43 mark of the second period. Mahovsky and John-Scott Dickson were credited with the assists on the goal.
The scoring draught for both teams returned for the next 22 minutes, until Kris Hogg netted his 11th goal of the season on a Mavs power play with nine minutes remaining in regulation. The goal was assisted by Andrew Courtney and David Pszenyczny. Sebastien Thinel added a third goal with four minutes remaining in regulation. Pszenyczny picked up his second goal of the night on the assist. Dickson wrapped the game up with 1:35 left in regulation, scoring an empty net goal.
With the victory, the Mavs broke a three-way tie for third place in the Turner Conference between Missouri, the Rapid City Rush and Quad City Mallards and now sit alone in third place in the conference, two points ahead of both Rapid City and Quad City with seven games remaining on their regular season schedule. The Mavs are now six points back of the second place Fort Wayne Komets as well.
The Mavericks now head to Illinois to face the Bloomington Blaze on Friday night before returning home on Saturday to face the Oilers again on Saturday night at Independence Events Center.
