LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, defeated the Arizona Sundogs 4-3.
The Laredo Bucks faced off against the Arizona Sundogs for their final home game of the 2011-2012 regular season Sunday afternoon. This was the seventh and final meeting between the two teams.
The Bucks made a roster addition just before the game, when they added rookie forward Colin McIntosh to the line-up. The addition would pay off as McIntosh would score his first professional goal at 8:52 giving the Bucks a 1-0 lead. A.J. Hau and Ryan Sparling assisted on the goal. Adam Rivet scored his 11th goal of the year at 6:45, with an assist from Rusty Masters boosting the Bucks lead to 2-0. Arizona would get on the board with only 14.2 seconds to play in the first period, when Craig Macdonald went top shelf. The goal narrowed the Bucks lead to only one goal. The Sundogs outshot the Bucks 9-8 in the opening frame.
The Sundogs tied the game 2-2 early in the second period, when Kevin Petovello scored an unassisted goal at 1:55. Justin Styffe gave the Bucks the lead once again, when he fired a strike past the Arizona goaltender. Joseph Harcharik and Matt Boyd assisted on the goal at 10:04 that gave the Bucks a 3-2 lead. The Bucks outshot the Sundogs 14-11 in the second period.
Laredo was the first one to light the lamp in the third period, with a powerplay goal from Matt Hanson at 2:14. Hanson was assisted by Adam Rivet and Colin McIntosh. The goal gave the Bucks a 4-2 lead. Arizona's Luke Erickson scored an unassisted goal at 6:35 to once again make it a one goal game. The Sundogs pulled their goalie with 1:10 remaining in the contest to gain the extra attacker and try and tie the game. Torrie Jung and the Bucks held off the Sundog attack taking home the 4-3 win..
