Tulsa Oilers News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Missouri Mavericks continued their mastery over the Tulsa Oilers on Sunday afternoon, posting a 4-0 victory on home ice and beating the Oilers for the fifth time in as many games.
Mavs goalie Charlie Effinger stopped 32 shots and picked up his third shutout as the Oilers were kept off the scoreboard for just the second time this season.
Missouri forward Brandon Coccimiglio broke a scoreless tie at the 8:43 mark of the second period when he snapped a pass from Dale Mahovsky past Tulsa netminder Ian Keserich.
Still down a goal midway through the third, the Oilers found themselves shorthanded and the Mavericks found the insurance marker. Dave Pszenyczny's point shot was tipped on goal by Andrew Courtney and Kris Hogg was there to slide the rebound past Keserich. Five minutes later, the Mavericks capitalized on another powerplay, this time it was Sebastien Thinel who pounded a rebound into the back of net to give Missouri a 3-0 lead. John-Scott Dickson added an empty-net tally and the victory moved the Mavs into sole possession of third place in the Turner Conference.
With Rio Grande Valley idle, the Oilers missed an opportunity to close the gap in the Berry Conference playoff race. Tulsa, which has seven games remaining, still sits six points back of the Killer Bees for fourth place.
The Oilers have now dropped eight straight road games and have scored two goals or less in 11 of their last 12 contests.
Next up for the Oilers is a Friday matchup at the BOK Center against the Arizona Sundogs at 7:35 p.m. It's youth jersey night at the rink and the first 500 fans (12 and under) will receive a free Oilers youth jersey.
