
Mavs Sweep Sundogs, 6-2

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks completed a two-game, weekend sweep of the Arizona Sundogs Saturday night at Independence Events Center by a score of 6-2. Ed McGrane scored a hat trick for the Mavericks and David Pszenyczny added two goals for the Mavs in the effort as well. The game was played in front of the fourth consecutive sellout for the Mavericks and 11th overall this season.
Ed McGrane scored back-to-back goals for the Mavericks in the early goings of Saturday's contest, first getting the Mavs on the board in the first minute of regulation. Three minutes later, McGrane doubled the Mavs lead to 2-0, this time scoring on the power play. Sebastien Thinel was credited with assists on both goals. Arizona chopped the lead in half midway through the second period on a goal from Samson Mahbod. Six minutes later, Daymen Rycroft tied the game for the Sundogs. David Pszenyczny scored an unassisted goal shortly after, returning the lead to Missouri heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, the Mavs doubled their lead to 4-2 on Pszenyczny's second goal of the evening. The Mavs outshot the Sundogs 7-6 in the second period.
Andrew Favot put the Mavs up by three five minutes into the period. Ed McGrane tallied the hat trick at the 7:50 mark of the third period, making it two consecutive nights with hat tricks for Missouri. In his last five games, McGrane has six goals and has scored a goal in eight of his last 12 games.
Charlie Effinger finished the night with 28 saves on 30 shots for his 19th victory of the season.
The Mavericks wrap up their season-long, seven-game home stand when the Rapid City Rush come to town on Tuesday night before heading to Rapid City on Thursday for two games against the Rush on Thursday and Friday.
