SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Mavericks bolted out of the gate with back-to-back triples to start the game and held on to a 3-1 lead to earn a series split against Inland Empire Sunday night.

Blake Brannon made the spot start for the 66ers and got jumped on at the start when Tyson Gillies lined a triple to right and Jeffrey Dominguez followed with a triple of his own to center field. Dominguez went on to score when Brent Johnson grounded out to short to give High Desert a 2-0 lead.

Johnson struck again against Brannon in the third with an RBI single to right that drove in Dominguez from second.

In the bottom of the third, Scott Van Slyke laced his 42nd double of the season off the chain link fence in left field to tie Ryan Christianson for the Inland Empire single-season doubles mark. After Andres Perez was hit by a pitch, Preston Mattingly flied to right, allowing Van Slyke to tag up to third. Steven Caseres then grounded a sharp single to right to bring in Van Slyke and cut the lead to 3-1.

Donnie Hume (17-5, 4.76) allowed just 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks while fanning 5 and plunking two batters over 6 innings to pick up the win. His 17 wins lead Minor League Baseball.

Brannon (0-3, 4.36) gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and an intentional walk with 2 strikeouts and a hit batter in 3 innings of work for the loss.

The relief tandem of Thomas Melgarejo, Eric Krebs, Kenley Jansen, Joe Torres, and Marcel Prado pitched 6 innings of scoreless relief to keep the Sixers (57-76) in the game.

Steve Richard picked up his 13th save of the year for High Desert (79-54), striking out one in the ninth.
