Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- In the final home game of the regular season at the Epicenter the Quakes jumped out to an early lead against the Stockton Ports on Sunday. In the 3rd inning the Quakes loaded the bases on a double by Carlos Colmenares, a single by PJ Phillips and a walk to Hector Estrella, before Abel Nieves singled into left to score Colmenares and Estrella. With runners at second and third, Jeremy Moore executed a squeeze bunt to push across the third run of the inning to grab a 3-0 lead.

Quakes starter Manuel Flores was outstanding for Rancho as he tossed five shutout innings, allowing just six hits.

The Ports finally got in the run column in the 6th inning against reliever Steven Geltz as Shane Keough and Steve Kleen hit back-to-back double to make the score 3-1.

In the 6th inning Jay Brossman blasted a solo home run, his third in as many days, to give the Quakes a 4-1 edge.

The game got interesting in the 8th as Kevin Nabors came out of the bullpen for Rancho and loaded the bases. He then walked Steve Kleen to bring the score to 4-2 with no outs. Taylor Wilding came in out of the pen and allowed a single to Todd Johnson to bring the score to 4-3. With the bases still loaded and no outs, Wilding struck out Frank Martinez and got Matt Smith to bounce into an inning ending double play to end the threat. Wilding would pitch a 1-2-3 9th to seal up the win and take three of four from Stockton.

The Quakes will have an off-day Monday before hitting the road Tuesday for a three game series against Visalia. Right hander Mike Kenney will be on the mound for the Quakes against left hander Wade Miley for the Rawhide. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Quakes win, Quakes win.
