INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks continued to be baffled by playing on their home ice, in their latest home loss, a 4-2 defeat Tuesday night at Independence Events Center at the hands of the Laredo Bucks. Ed McGrane registered two points on the night on a goal and an assist. John-Scott Dickson scored his fourth goal in his last two games, but the Bucks added a late goal in regulation and skated away with the victory. The Mavs and Bucks are back in action at Independence Events Center this Friday.
Ed McGrane got the Mavs on the board six minutes into the game, getting an outlet pass from Sebastien Thinel and scoring on a breakaway. Thinel and Mike Wakita were given the assists on the goal. Rusty Masters tied the game three minutes later for Laredo. Mark Nebus and Matt Boyd assisted on the goal. The Bucks took the lead late in the period on a goal by Neil Trimm, but the Mavs responded with a John-Scott Dickson equalizer with 57 seconds left in the period. The Mavs and Bucks piled up 31 combined shots in the period, with the Bucks holding a 16-15 edge over the home squad.
There were not any goals scored in the second period, but the Mavericks dominated the pace of play, outshooting the Bucks, 9-3.
A.J. Hau put the Bucks ahead 3-2 with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation. Adam Rivet added an empty net goal to seal the victory with less than a second left.
The Mavericks and Bucks face each other again on Friday night at Independence Events Center. The Mavericks will pay tribute to the Kansas City Blades, wearing Blades' replica jerseys.
