Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (December 20, 2011) - Aaron Dawson's power play goal at 12:22 of the third period snapped a 2-2 tie and the Bloomington Blaze went on to defeat the host Quad City Mallards 4-2 Tuesday night.

Dawson scored what proved to be the game winner with a wrist shot from the left point. Jon Booras provided an empty net goal with 36 seconds remaining to finish off the Mallards.

Bloomington had twice forged in front earlier in the evening. The Blaze opened the scoring when Omar Pacha pounced on a loose puck in the left wing circle at 8:40 of the first period. That Bloomington advantage lasted only 58 seconds before the Mallards' John Snowden tied the score at one with a drive from the high slot.

The Blaze would again grab a short-lived lead in the second period. Mark Znutas's power play blast from the blue line at 1:23 gave the Blaze a 2-1 edge that lasted until Jared Brown's shot was deflected home by Justin Chwedoruk two minutes and one second later. There would be, however, no comeback for the Mallards in the third period.

David Brown- who was making his first appearance of the season with the Mallards after being assigned to Quad City by the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Heat- suffered the loss in goal despite making 26 saves. At the other end, Zane Kalemba earned the win on the back of a 29 save effort.

The Mallards next play at home Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder. $1 from every ticket purchased at the i wireless Center box office for Friday night's game will be donated to the Dispatch Good Fellow & Argus Santa Holiday Fund. In addition, the Mallards have teamed with Winnie's Place, a shelter for women and children who are homeless or are victims of abuse, to hold a gift drive leading up to Friday night's game. Fans who donate a new or gently used women's gift (pajama pants or gift certificates are preferred) receive a voucher for $5 off the price of their ticket to Friday night's game. Donations can be made in advance of the game either at Winnie's Wishes, which is located at 902 East River Drive in Davenport, or at the Mallards' business office at the i wireless Center.
