INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks have signed defenseman Riley Sweeney, announced Wednesday by head coach John-Scott Dickson.

Sweeney's rights were acquired via trade with the Indy Fuel on Tuesday in exchange for defenseman Alex Brooks.

Sweeney, 25, played in his first professional season last year, registering 13 points (2g, 11a) in 52 games between the Greenville Swamp Rabbits and Indy Fuel. With Indy, Sweeney finished with 11 points a plus-1 rating in 46 games to help guide the Fuel to the team's first-ever playoff berth.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound, right-handed defenseman played for Michigan Tech in his collegiate career, skating in 157 games with the Huskies. Throughout his four seasons, the Vancouver, British Columbia native tallied 38 points (4g, 34a) and 82 penalty minutes.
