Mavericks to Play Wichita Thunder in Preseason Contests

July 15, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - Missouri Mavericks' General Manager Brent Thiessen, in conjunction with the Wichita Thunder, announced Wednesday that the teams will play two pre-season games at the Wichita Ice Center on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. Both games will begin at 7:05 pm.

"We are excited to announce our first games as a franchise," said Thiessen. "These games will be very beneficial in determining our opening night roster and to see what kind of team we have."

The Wichita Ice Center is located at 505 W. Maple and serves as the Thunder's practice facility. Information regarding ticket prices will be available shortly and can be found at the Thunder's official website www.wichitathunder.com.

"Preseason games are crucial, particularly for our expansion team because we do not have a core group of guys returning from last season," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "Guys are fighting for their jobs and for spots on this team that are being heavily sought after. For a few players, this will be their first professional game or two; tensions are high and the contests are often very physical. As a coach, I am not only looking to see the skills the players have to make this hockey club, but also how they will fit within the system we will be implementing. It will be exciting."

The Mavericks have four players signed for the team's inaugural 2009-10 campaign. Defensemen Shaun Arvai and Tyler Fleck, and forwards Jeff Christian and Travis Kauffeldt are all under contract for the 2009-10 season.

The Missouri Mavericks will begin their inaugural season this fall at the brand-new Independence Events Center. Season tickets are on sale now starting at $352. The 2009-10 regular season schedule will be released in August. For more information, call the Mavericks' front office at (816) 252-PUCK (7825) or visit www.MissouriMavericks.com.
