October 27, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Mavericks dropped the puck for the second time in Arizona this weekend in a tension-filled hockey game that would see 140 penalty minutes served before the end of 60 minutes of regulation. The Mavericks took a 4-1 victory over the Sundogs after holding a 2-goal lead for more than half the game,
The Mavericks have scored first in every game of their 2013-14 season thus far and are holding firm to their winning streak when leading by 2 goals. Rob Kleebaum put the Mavericks on the board with his first goal of the season and the first Mavericks power play goal of the season. Dave Pszenyczny launched a rocket of a shot towards the Sundogs' goal which bounced off an Arizona player and in behind net minder, Cam Lanigan, to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead in the first period of play.
Fueled by rising frustrations and aggressive play, tensions mounted quickly on the Arizona ice and several multiple scrap fights broke out on the ice throughout much of the second period, including a real bell ringer following the end of the second period, in which 82 penalty minutes were distributed between the teams.
After a close, but not quite there goal attempt by forward, Trevor Kell, the second-year Maverick took a second chance and wristed in a beautiful shot past Arizona goaltender, Andrew Engelage (who replaced Laingan at the top of the second period). Kell's power play goal gave the Mavericks a 3-0 lead, but Missouri was not quite finished putting their tallies on the scoreboard. At just under 10 minutes left in regulation, Mavericks' Team Captain, Sebastien Thinel scored the teams' 3rd power play goal of the night. Sundog, Kevin Baker, answered back with a goal of his own to put Arizona on the board with just less than 5 minutes remaining.
In a tremendous display of defensive control and offensive skill, the Mavericks take their second victory of the weekend over Arizona with a 4-1 win.
The Mavericks play their first home game on November 2. Individual tickets and Season tickets are on sale now. With season tickets starting at just over $11 per game and FREE parking, the Mavericks are the pinnacle of family affordable entertainment.
