October 27, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
St. Charles Chill News Release
St. Charles, Mo. - The St. Charles Chill, a proud affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, battled back from an early 5-0 deficit to tie the game in the second period but were shut out in the third frame and the Quad City Mallards scored the game-winner midway through the period and added an empty net goal to pick up their first win of the season by a final of 7-5.
The Mallards (1-0-1) opened up the scoring 53 seconds into the game on a Mike Heller one-timer and pressed the lead to 3-0 by the five minute mark on goals by Matt Boyd and Matt Duffy. Mike Stinziani and Gabriel Levesque added power play goals for the Mallards before the Chill (0-2-1) got their legs under them.
After playing last night and arriving at the arena one hour prior to puck drop, the Chill took a while to get going. When they finally did, it appeared it would not stop. Chad Costello, en-route to a three-point night, scored the first two goals for the Chill at the end of the initial period, first with a wraparound and then his second came short-handed when he picked off a pass in the slot and lifted a backhand past Mallard goalie Thomas Heemskerk.
St. Charles carried that momentum into the second period. David Strathman and Neilsson Arcibal scored in the first four minutes to close the gap to 5-4 before Anthony Perdicaro tied the game against his former team at the 13:58 mark of the second.
The game settled into a defensive battle for the next 20 minutes before Hellyer scored his second of the night to lift the Mallards to a 6-5 lead. An empty netter provided the final tally as the Chill fall 7-5, getting out-shot 46-29 for the game.
The Chill is back at The Family Arena on Sunday with a 4:05 puck drop against the Mallards. The Family Arena will be featuring "ballpark specials" at the game, including half-price hotdogs and half-price drinks all game long leading up to game four of the World Series.
Single-game tickets are available through MetroTix and at The Family Arena box office. For ticket packages, sponsorships, and more information on the St. Charles Chill visit StCharlesChill.com or call (636) 724-SHOT (7468).
