Oilers End Weekend with 3-2 Loss to Allen
October 27, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The script of Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Allen Americans played out almost identically to what the Oilers endured in Sunday's 3-2 setback in front of 5,260 at the BOK Center. On each night, a 2-0 Oilers lead evaporated thanks to three unanswered goals from the Americans. Saturday it was a 5-on-3 power play for Allen that spelled the Oilers demise but on Sunday it was Jarret Lukin's shorthanded tally in the second period that proved to be the difference.
The Oilers manufactured all of their offense in the opening period. Jake Obermeyer's slap shot from the point blew past Americans netminder David Brown at 11:35 of the first period. Less than six minutes later, veteran forward Michel Beausoleil moved in on Brown and jammed home his own rebound to give the home team a two-goal advantage. Before the period came to a close, Jonathan Lessard put Allen on the board with a backhand following a nifty pass from Alex Lavoie.
With seven minutes remaining in the second period, Kale Kerbashian leveled the game at 2-2. Jamie Schaafsma fed the puck from behind the Oilers net to the waiting Kerbashian who lifted a snap shot past Tulsa goalie Shane Madolora. Darryl Bootland was called for goalie interference at 16:12 of the second and the Oilers looked to re-take the lead on the ensuing power play. Instead of seizing the opportunity, the Oilers watched the puck end up in their own net. After Kerbashian's shot was stopped by Madolora, Jarret Lukin poked home a rebound to give the Americans their first lead of the night. The Oilers have now given up two shorthanded goals through their first four games.
Brown stopped any hope the Oilers had of a comeback by stopping all eight shots he faced in the third period. Tulsa finished the nigh 0-for-6 on the power play and was outshot 30-24 by Allen.
Tulsa, 0-3-1, is winless in its first four games for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Allen improved to 4-0-1 and has earned a point in every game this season.
The two clubs will meet again on Wednesday in Allen at 7:05 p.m.
