Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The High Desert Mavericks and Inland Empire 66ers each had 11 hits on Thursday at San Manuel Stadium, but the Mavs were able to make them count in a 10-7 win. High Desert went 7-for-11 with runners in scoring position while the Sixers were just 1-for-12 and were sent to their season-worst seventh consecutive loss.
The 66ers got a runner on in the bottom of the first when Mavs starter Trey Lambert (7-3) committed a fielding error on Eric Aguilera's grounder. Brandon Bayardi followed by blasting a triple off the wall in center scoring Aguilera and giving IE a 1-0 lead. Lambert got out of a jam in the bottom of the second when he worked out of runners at second and third with no outs unscathed.
The Mavericks (67-55, 30-22) capitalized in the third as Jeremy Rhoades (4-3) allowed four runs on four hits in the frame for the Sixers. High Desert got RBI singles from Evan Van Hoosier and Royce Bolinger in the inning as well as a sac fly from Joe Jackson making it 4-1.
The teams spent the next two innings trading scoring frames. Each club scored a run in the fourth and four in the fifth. Bolinger chased Rhoades in the fifth with a towering two-run homer over the batters eye in center, his 14th. Rhoades allowed nine runs on eight hits in 4.1 IP. He struck out three, walked two and hit three batters. Lambert allowed six runs, five earned over five innings with a walk, seven hits and five Ks. Ryan Ledbetter tossed three scoreless out of the pen for the Mavs. Alex Blackford gave up a run for the Sixers out of the bullpen in 2.2 IP but struck out seven batters.
Inland Empire (58-64, 23-29) trailed 10-6 with two outs in the ninth when Eric Aguilera connected against reliever John Fasola for a solo homer, his 16th of the campaign to make it 10-7. Aguilera has now knocked in a team-best 90 RBI. Bayardi followed with his second triple of the night. Bayardi finished 3-for-5 with a double and the pair of triples. The Sixers would get no closer as Fasola got Kody Eaves to fly to center for the final out.
