August 21, 2015 - California League (CalL1)
San Jose Giants News Release
San Jose, CA- San Jose Giants shortstop Christian Arroyo and right-handed pitcher Chase Johnson have been named to the 2015 California League Postseason All-Star Team. They are the sixth and seventh San Jose Giants players to earn Postseason honors since 2011, joining left-handed pitcher Ty Blach (2013), third baseman Adam Duvall (2012), outfielder Gary Brown (2011), catcher Tommy Joseph (2011) and right-handed pitcher Craig Westcott (2011).
Arroyo was the San Francisco Giants first round draft pick in 2013. He currently ranks fourth in the California League with a .319 batting average. Despite a six-week DL stint in the first half, the shortstop is second on the team in doubles (24), fourth in RBI's (35) and fourth in home runs (8). He hit .300 in the first half (27 games) and is batting at a .332 clip since the All-Star break (47 games). Arroyo was named Offensive Player of the Week for the first week of July after he hit 500 (12-for-24) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and two stolen bases in six games.
Johnson, a 3rd round selection in 2013 by the San Francisco Giants, enjoyed great success in San Jose throughout 2015. Johnson was 8-3 with a 2.43 ERA (second in the California League) while averaging a strikeout per inning (111 strikeouts in 111 innings) prior to being promoted to Double-A Richmond on August 18. In his final appearance before the call-up, Johnson struck out 14 batters in six innings as San Jose defeated the Lancaster JetHawks at Municipal Stadium. The right-hander also received Pitcher of the Week honors in July and was one of six San Jose Giants selected to the California League All-Star Team in June.
"It is a great achievement for Chase and Christian to be recognized for their performance on the field this year", said Russ Morman, Manager of the San Jose Giants. "It has been a pleasure to manage and work with them on a daily basis this season and I am confident each has a bright future ahead."
