Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Portsmouth, New Hampshire - Seacoast Mavericks third baseman Louis Mele (NYIT / Bethpage, New York) lifted a 3-run home run in the first inning of a 4-2 victory over the Worcester Bravehearts on June 13 on Leary Field in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Mele's home run coupled with a strong start from Seacoast pitcher Evan Flanagan (URI / Hingham) gave the Mavericks enough breathing room to hand the Bravehearts their seventh consecutive loss. Mele finished 2-3, while Flanagan gave up only three hits, while striking out seven in six scoreless innings of work.
Worcester cut Seacoast's lead in half in the seventh inning when outfielder Bobby Indeglia (Holy Cross / North Kingston, Rhode Island) led off the inning with a double. In the next at bat, Charlie Ameer (Cochise / Weston, Connecticut) belted a 2-run home run. Ameer was the only Bravehearts hitter with more than one hit in the game.
In just his second appearance of the season, Bravehearts pitcher Bobby Maxwell (LIU Brooklyn / Otisville, New York) got the start but took the loss after surrendering all four runs in 4.2 innings pitched. Maxwell allowed four hits but walked five in his outing.
Mavericks closer Jake Walkinshaw retired the side in order in the ninth inning to pick up his league-leading fourth save.
The Worcester Bravehearts will take on the Torrington Titans for the second time in three days at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 14 at Fuessenich Park in Torrington, Connecticut.
