Kansas City Mavericks News Release

ALLEN, Texas - The Missouri Mavericks were dealt their first shutout loss in over a year on Sunday when they fell to the Allen Americans 4-0 at Allen Events Center. The loss dropped Missouri to 0-2-0 on the season.

In the previous night's game the Mavericks surrendered the first six shots on goal, but this afternoon was a different story. The Mavericks pumped two shots on goal, both quality scoring chances, in the early stages of the first but Americans rookie goalie Jamie Murray was up to the task. Fellow rookie Eamon McAdam made his first start in goal for the Mavericks and turned away 14 shots that he faced, including a breakaway, but was beaten once. Gary Steffes slipped a wrist shot to the back of the net at 7:23 and put Allen on the board. The teams combined for five power play chances in the frame but neither converted.

The Mavericks applied consistent pressure throughout the second period and out-shot the Americans by a 13-12 mark. Reed Seckel had a glorious chance on a partial breakaway and Dan Correale nearly netted his first pro goal from the doorstep. But Murray was there to stop all 13 shots he faced and a pair of Allen goals extended the lead to 3-0 after two. Steffes picked up his second of the game, a shorthanded marker, six minutes into the period and Tristan King scored with just over a minute remaining.

In the third period a steady stream of Americans to the penalty box gave the Mavericks five power play opportunities. Missouri hit a couple of posts and generated a few other good chances, but Murray was up to task for every Mavericks attempt. Shortly after the third power play of the period expired the guilty American, Tanner Eberle, picked up a loose puck in front and backhanded a shot past McAdam for a 4-0 Allen lead. The goal came at 15:27 and Joel Chouinard picked up the lone assist.

McAdam turned away 34 Allen shots in the loss while Murray denied each of the 35 he saw from the Mavericks. Missouri ended the night 0-for-9 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

Mark your calendars! The Mavericks hit the ice for Opening Night on Saturday, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Indy Fuel.
