Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers picked up a much needed win on Monday in Allen but couldn't carry the momentum into Tuesday night's tilt against Missouri. Despite firing just 19 shots on goal, the Mavericks scored twice in each period en route to a 6-2 victory in front of 3,410 at the BOK Center.
Patrick Shafer provided all the offense for Missouri in the first period with a pair of even strength goals eight minutes apart.
Dylan Clarke pulled the Oilers back within one when he beat Mavs goalie Charlie Effinger on a partial breakaway at 2:30 of the second period. Tulsa's comeback bid was dealt a major blow when Dave Pszenyczny scored on a powerplay after the Oilers were caught with too many men on the ice. Five minutes later, Sebastien Thinel made the Oilers pay for a turnover in their own zone with a wrist shot that trickled under the pad of Steve Christie and across the goal line.
Things went from bad to worse for Tulsa in the third period. Andrew Courtney and Ed McGrane scored 48 seconds apart to put Missouri up 6-1 and effectively put the game out of reach. Troy Ofukany added a late marker for the Oilers who fell to the Mavs for the third time this season.
Missouri took five hooking minor and seven penalties overall, but Tulsa was unable to capitalize on any of its powerplay chances.
The Oilers embark on a season-long five game road trip this Friday when they play the first of two in a row against Fort Wayne.
