PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Daymen Rycroft tied it up in the third period for the Arizona Sundogs, but Matt Robinson buried the shootout-winner for the Wichita Thunder in a 2-1 final on Wednesday at Tim's Toyota Center.
Wichita (23-9-2) scored in each of the three rounds of the shootout. Brett Hemingway and Thomas Beauregard also scored.
After a scoreless first period Aaron Davis finally broke the scoreless tie with 9:28 remaining in period two. Davis buried a sharp-angled shot from the bottom of the left circle for his 15th of the year and a power play goal. Daniel Tetault and Matt Robinson picked up the assists.
Trailing 1-0 entering the third, Rycroft forced overtime midway through the frame as Tyler Butler's slap shot from the point provided a rebound for Rycroft's fifth of the season. Kyle Hood also picked up an assist for the Sundogs (12-17-7).
Scott Reid took the loss for Arizona, stopping 39 shots. Adam Russo earned the win with a 48-save performance.
The Thunder finished 1-for-5 on the power play. Arizona went 0-for-2.
By picking up the point the Sundogs close the gap for fifth place in the Berry Conference to six points, trailing the Tulsa Oilers.
The Sundogs close out their season-long home stand this weekend with a pair of games against the Allen Americans. Friday's contest is scheduled for a 7:05 PM MST start.
