Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Missouri Mavericks saw their two-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in a 1-0 loss to the Allen Americans. The loss dropped the Mavericks' record to 8-9-1 on the season.

The Mavericks came into tonight's action having surrendered two goals combined in their last two games and the defense was dialed in again. Missouri limited Allen to 15 shots combined in the first two periods and helped its cause by giving the Americans just one power play opportunity in the first 40 minutes. Allen did come close to breaking the ice early in the first period when a fluttering shot eluded goalie Josh Robinson but glanced off the crossbar and away from the net.

The Mavericks, meanwhile, had their fair share of scoring opportunities, especially in the first period. Of Missouri's eight shots in the opening frame, four came on a power play just past the midway point and each of the four shots were quality scoring chances. Riley Gill got the start in goal for Allen and turned away 14 Missouri shots over the first two periods. Dane Fox had a pair of good looks in the second but the first hit iron and Gill thwarted the second with a poke check.

Each team played a tight-checking third period that saw a total of 16 combined shots in the frame. Ten of those belonged to the Mavericks and four of them came in the final 80 seconds with Robinson pulled for the extra attacker. The Mavericks were playing catchup as a result of Joel Chouinard's power play goal at 10:08 of the third. With the Mavs unable to pot the tying goal in the waning minutes, Chouinard's marker stood as the game winner.

Robinson was saddled with the loss despite stopping 20 of 21 shots in the game. Missouri ended the night 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Mark your calendar! The Mavericks return home on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7:05 p.m. to face the Tulsa Oilers.
