Stingrays Sign Defenseman Alex Brooks

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have announced the signing of defenseman Alex Brooks Wednesday. The native of Grand Rapids, Mich. has played 12 games with the Fayetteville FireAntz in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) this season, registering six points (one goal, five assists).

Currently in his first full professional season, the 25-year-old played collegiately for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the NCAA Division III level from 2012-2016. Brooks appeared in 114 games with the Pointers, scoring 86 points (18 goals, 68 assists).

At the end of the 2015-16 year, Brooks suited up for three regular season games with Fayetteville and picked up five assists. He then appeared in five playoff contests for the FireAntz.

Before his time at school, Brooks played 159 games in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) with four different teams from 2009-2012. His best offensive season came with the Janesville Jets in 2010-11, when he had 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) in 58 games.

Brooks will wear No. 5 with the Rays. South Carolina will now battle the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in five consecutive games at the start of December. The first matchup will be in Greenville on Dec. 2 at 7:00 p.m. The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum ice Dec. 9 when they also battle Greenville at 7:05 p.m.
