January 17, 2007 - NBA G League (G League)
Fort Worth Flyers News Release
DALLAS, Jan. 17, 2007 - The Dallas Mavericks have assigned guard Jose Barea to the Fort Worth Flyers of the NBA Development League. The Flyers have been assigned as the D-League affiliate for the Mavericks for the 2006-07 season.
Barea (6-0, 175) has appeared in 12 games for the Mavericks this season. He will join Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who was assigned to the Flyers on December 7.
Following four seasons at Northeastern, Barea went undrafted in June. He was a finalist for the Bob Cousy award, given to the nation's best point guard, as both a junior and a senior. Barea left Northeastern trailing only the late Reggie Lewis as the school's all-time leading scorer. As a senior, he averaged 21.0 points and 8.4 assists and was named Honorable Mention All-America by The Associated Press.
This past summer, Barea played for Golden State in the Toshiba Vegas Summer League and averaged 6.8 points, 2.8 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 2.00 steals. He later joined Dallas in the Rocky Mountain Revue and averaged 12.0 points, 6.7 assists and 1.7 rebounds.
The 16th NBA player assigned to a D-League affiliate this season, Barea is the fifth player assigned to the Flyers. Twenty-five (25) NBA teams have taken advantage of the system to assign 41 players since the start of 2005-06 season.
